An Update of Sorts

I can't remember if I've mentioned it here, but I want to give a few words to what I've been up to for a few weeks. I feel like I haven't been available, and that's been by choice.

You see, I started having awful headaches towards the end of July. They determined it was due to an elevated blood pressure. Basically, I was doing too much stuff (and stressing out over it), not sleeping enough, and not getting exercise (i.e., being a fatass).

I got some medication and was told to exercise and lose weight.

So I went through a few weeks where I didn't really work on any genre stuff. I went to bed by 11. I read for fun. I just marked all my feeds as read. I ignored everything on Facebook. I started walking in the morning before work and doing a little weightlifting.

It was great. I felt free.

However, that's not gonna get the bills paid. I've begun working on things again. I don't let myself stay up past 1 if I can help it. Of course, the past week or so I've been up well past 11 with my wife while we watch Olympics and THEN I try to work. With less time to work, I needed to be more productive with my time.

So, I installed Leechblock (Firefox only) on my computer(s) with some pretty aggressive settings to keep me away from tome wasting websites. This is a more elegant solution than editing my HOSTS file, which is an all or nothing approach. Leechblock let's me set which days I want to block time wasters, what times of day, how long I can be on the sites, how long they remain blocked to me once I use my time up, and the best feature, I can chose to block the sites manually with the software's Lockdown feature.

So, if I haven't been around/available as much as you'd like, sorry about that. I'll likely be kind of unavailable as it's better for my health. And I'd rather take a little longer to get things done and then be around for a long time to do lots more.

I wish there was a permanent way to block sites. I used your HOSTS technique, but then go in and re-tweak the file every time. I tried to make the HOSTS file read-only, but that's only a few clicks away from changing.

You can see I have absolutely no self-control.
