PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
I've mentioned this before, but now it's for real. I've bought some domain space, so I am no longer using anyone's free space. So, if you aren't using http://www.electricvelocipede.com to get to the website, your links will not work starting January 26.
This will be my last post before we move. Wish us luck!

Brief Update
OK, this blog will have random postery over the next few weeks. I am full-fledged into my move to Iowa. It's been a crazy couple days.
WEDNESDAY: I went into New York to have lunch with my more-than-lovely editor Juliet Ulman. I then went out for drinks with a bunch of people (Juliet, Schleup, Fleetwood, Richard Morgan, Bill Shunn, Virginia, etc.) on the way to the KGB reading. I stopped in at KGB to say goodbye to a few people (Rick Bowes, Ellen Datlow, etc.) that I knew would be there. A sad moment to be sure.
Yes, I'll see most of these people at conventions, and no, I didn't get into New York very often lately, but the opportunity was there, and now it's gone. It's starting to hit home that I am moving away and making a major life change. Unfortunately, I had to skip the reading so that I could get home and get some rest before...
THURSDAY: I drove to WI. Yep. 15 hours in the car. I have some photos of the trip that I'll post some day. Put about 930 miles on the car. Long day. Now one of our cars is most of the way to our new home. I have to say when I got most of the way across Ohio I got REALLY bored. I started calling people to pass the time. Hopefully I have minutes left. :)
FRIDAY: Drove to the Quad Cities in IA and back. I did some prelim work for my move and showed my parents a little bit of the area.
SATURDAY and BEYOND: I'll be flying back to the east coast for the final push in getting packed and ready for the move. My wife is starting to get stressed about the move, but we have until Thursday when the movers come. We still don't know for sure when our stuff will arrive in Iowa, but we should know sooner than later. We'll drive out to the midwest on Friday.
As I said, this blog will not get updated with any planned regularity. Neither will the website. The website may even disappear while I get things sorted out with web space. I will not be able to fulfill orders very quickly. On top of that, the page proofs for LOGORRHEA should be on my doorstep tomorrow when I get home from the airport. They're due on Feb 2., so I'll be trying to get that done while we move.
What's everyone else up to?

A Few Announcements
First, David Hartwell has selected Edd Vick's story "Moon Does Run" from Electric Velocipede #11 for reprint in his Year's Best Science Fiction anthology. I'm very excited about this. I've had a number of stories make recommended lists, and have people speak positively about the zine, but this is the first time a story from the zine has been collected into a year's best. (a free drink to this first person who identifies the three stories from EV that have been collected into single author story collections)
Second, I've become a resident editor for the Online Writing Workshop, which is run by Ellen Harris-Braun and Charles Coleman Finlay. Its members include people like Elizabeth Bear, Leah Bobet, Hannah Bowen, Andre Oosterman, Sandra McDonald, Ruth Nestvold, and many many many many more authors of great talent! As resident editor, I select a chapter from among all the fantasy chapters submitted to the group during the month and write up an Editor's Choice explaining why I liked it. This is a great group for aspiring writers. Go check them out.
And finally, anyone reading this blog with any regularity should know that I am moving to Iowa. Pursuant to the move, I won’t be able to continue my Verizon service there, so if you’ve been using the evzine [at] verizon [dot] net e-mail address, you’ll have to update it to evzine [at] aol [dot] com or editor [at] electricvelocipede [dot] com.

Hugo Nominations
UPDATE: Apparently there was a mistake on the ballot (kudos to Patrick Nielsen Hayden for pointing this out) where the editor and artist nominations were concerned, so hold off nominating for now. I'll post when I know more.
I received my nominating ballot in the mail the other day for the 2007 Worldcon in Nippon (the first Worldcon in Japan). I'll be posting a little about the Hugos and the awards on and off again until the nomination deadline on March 3, 2007. From the things that I've published this year, here are the eligible items:
Best Editor, Short Form:
John Klima
Best Fanzine:
Electric Velocipede
Novelettes:
Tim Akers - Jeremy Crow (issue #10)
Rick Bowes & Mark Rich - Jacket Jackson (issue #10)

Liz Williams - Tiger, Tiger (issue #11)
Marly Youmans - The Geode (issue #11)
Ezra Pines - Antevellum (from The Sense of Falling chapbook)
Ezra Pines - Of Light and Snow (from The Sense of Falling chapbook)
So keep these things in mind when making your nominations. If you haven't seen a copy of Electric Velocipede, you can buy stuff here or from places like Clarkesworld Books, Quimby's, Shocklines, or Borderlands Books.
You can also use PayPal to send $10 ($15 for people outside the US) to evzine [at] aol [dot] com and mention the code HUGONOM07 to receive copies of all three publications (issues #10, #11, and the Ezra Pines chapbook) Those items carry a list price of $13 for US customers and $18 for Canadians and $27 for the rest of the world. Not a bad amount of savings, eh?

ACQUIRING: More Christmas Books
OK, here's some books I picked up/received while I was in AZ for Christmas (where it rained; do you hear me? it rained in AZ when I was there! grrr). Sorry that it's not tilted correctly, you'll have to turn your monitor on its side to look at them:
In the image, you'll see Stephen King's Lisey's Story, Margo Langan's White Time, Ysaubeau Wilce's Flora Segunda, and Denny DeMartino's Wayward Moon. Of these books, I received the King book from my in-laws as a gift and I bought the other three.
The DeMartino has a longer story as to why I bought it that I'll get into sometime later this year (short version: it's a pseudonym of an overlooked author I like), the Langan was an impulse buy at a used bookstore, and the Wilce is something I was inspired to get after recently reading her novella in July's F&SF. I'll be going to her reading at KGB in about a week, so I wanted to get a sense of what her writing was like. Yowza! It's fricking great! This book is set in the same world as the F&SF piece. It is a YA or younger book, but that shouldn't deter people wanting to read more in that world.
